Nicholas Barron
April 24th, 2010Nicholas Barron is a fearless and unique Chicago based singer-songwriter- painter and writer who has been making his living through music for 24 years. In 1987 he founded CASA (coalition for the Advancedment of street art) when he was an active busker and the city of Chicago was trying to ban it. He and his fellow artists won their first amendment right to express their art publicly.
In 2007, James Taylor introduced Nicholas as the Launch Artist for the New York Times Emerging Artists Series at Joe’s in NYC and called him “undeniable”! He has opened for legends like Al Green and BB King and this June he opens for Shawn Colvin at Old town in Chicago. He has 4 records on Candyrat records (candyrat.com). Nicholas is a one-of-a-kind, one-man band playing flowing basslines and rich, open-tuned chords, with beatboxing and singing with a voice that is part John Martyn, part Cat Stevens, and part Al Green, but recognizable solely as Nicholas’.
As a painter, Nicholas paints with oil pastels on large canvases. His work is abstract in nature; raw, organic, primitive, and completely original in it’s approach.
