July 8th, 2010Title: UBS 12 x 12 Artist Talk: Ben Russell
Location: Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, 220 East Chicago Avenue
Description: Ben Russell discusses his new project for the MCA’s monthly UBS 12 x 12: New Artists/New Work exhibition series during this informal talk.
Russell is a media artist and curator whose films, installations, and performances foster a deep engagement with the history of the moving image. Formal investigations of the historical and conceptual relationships between early silent cinema, ethnographic documentaries, and structuralist filmmaking result in immersive experiences that reveal an ongoing concern with communal spectatorship and ritualistic performance. Russell lives and works in Chicago and is a professor in the Moving Image program at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
