Theaster Gates is an artist and cultural planner. In his performances, installations, and urban interventions, Gates transforms spaces, institutions, traditions, and perceptions. From witnessing so many torn down buildings in his neighborhood as a child, Gates had a very early fascination in rebuilding and breathing new life to structures.
